rayc Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I have been told to check the VSS on my TDI (PD). Being the now happy owner of a workshop CD I decided to try and locate it. To say the picture I have is difficult to understand is an understatement! It looks as though it's on the engine somewhere near the crank sensor (which I changed!) Can anyone point me in the right direction please Cheers Ray Quote
big_kev Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I would have thought the gearbox ......maybe Quote
rayc Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 I would have thought the gearbox ......maybe Thats my thinking. But on the CD it looks as though it's in the proximity of the crank sensor. Like a complete %^%%^% when I had the car on the scanner the guy said the vehicle speed sensor was giving odd readings when stationary and revving the engine. I automatically assumed this was crank sensor and replaced it. Got the CD courtesy of Ebay today and it says for fuelling electonics VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) picture 3 or 4 (Cant remember now) and the diagram looks as though it's by the crank sensor but ro rge rear by the flywheel! I always assumed it was the speedo drive connector! Quote

Scroll to page 42 ref VSS I also have just been told to change this sensor as i'm having a problem with losing power. The Ford dealer did not know what was wrong and said I should take it to a VW dealer to check out. ( Ford suggest to change the whole ECU) They told me it was more than likly the engine speed sensor and gave me a VW part number.( VW could not get hold of the part quickly ) After checking this number out with the Ford dealer they said it was the crank postion sensor which I have on order at the moment but it sounds like I've ordered the wrong one..... Do you have the part number of this sensor please... To say I'm going round in cirles ..... I can not belive a Ford dealer can not sort out its own cars.... Quote
